Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

Borough Hall, the Public Works Department and the Recycling Center will be closed on Monday, October 9 for Columbus Day. If you are on a Monday trash pickup route, that pickup will remain on schedule.

This Saturday at the Nature Center adults and children who love animals and making art can meet a live animal and explore your creative side. On Sunday, all ages are welcome to learn how to make fresh delicious apple cider. Sign up at TenaflyNC.org.

The Korean Community Center is hosting an art exhibit featuring artist Eunju Kang. Her art incorporates monotypes, collages, detailed sketches and painting. This mixed media exhibit is opening today, 4 pm to 6 pm, and will be on exhibit Monday through Friday until October 16th.

Everyone is invited to a family-fun filled day at our very first Octoberfest event. The festivities are on Saturday, October 14th in downtown Tenafly. Please come out to enjoy festive food, live entertainment, family fun, children’s amusements, and local artisans and vendors.

Project Graduation 2024 is hosting a Pre-Holiday Boutique fundraiser on Sunday, October 15th at the Middle School Gym from 11 am to 4 pm. Clothing, beauty, jewelry, holiday gifts, and home products will be featured. For details contact: claudiabeth@aol.com

The JCC is presenting it’s Fall Family Festival on Sunday, October 15th from 11 am to 2 pm. Join in for Pumpkin Painting, a Petting Zoo, a Food truck, treats, Pony rides and more! $25 per family. Visit www.jccotp.org for details.

The Presbyterian Church will be hosting a Poet's Cafe Sunday, October 15th at 6pm led by local poet and Tenafly High School grad, Nora Grimm and her former teacher, Gary Whitehead. The theme is Greek mythology - bring a favorite poem or an original to read at the open mic. All writers and mythology enthusiasts welcome. RSVP 201-567-0111 or office@tenaflypresby.org

The Elks are hosting an Elktoberfest on Saturday, October 21st at the lodge from 1 pm to 6 pm. Kids are welcome. Join in for an authentic feast plus homemade pretzels, Octoberfest beer, s’mores, an outside fire, games and caramel apples. $30 for adults, kids are $15.

The Elks are sponsoring a Hoop Shoot free throw contest on Sunday, October 22nd at 2pm at the Mount Carmel gym for children ages 8 to 13. Please contact Mark Brownlee at 201-694-5022 for details on this fun event.

The Senior Center is having a Fall Halloween Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale On Saturday, October 28th. Doors open at 9:00. Tickets available at the door. $7.00 Adults and $5.00 children.

Registration is now open for the Nature Center's Annual Haunted Forest on Sunday, October 29th. Arrive early or come after dark and meet several live nocturnal species on a fun animal walk along the trails. Tours are designed to be entertaining and educational (not scary). After the tour, participants can enjoy refreshments and crafts around the campfire. Register for this and more at TenaflyNC.org

Save the Date for the JCC’s 6th Annual Sports Night of Champions, Thursday evening, November 30th. With special guest appearances from Boomer and Gio of WFAN. This amazing night raises funds for financial assistance for individuals and families to access all the JCC has to offer.
